Objective: [ECON, ENV] Describe the trade network used by both the Tang and Song dynasties. Be sure to include the growth of major trade cities, new technologies that encouraged trade, the government's role in trade, techniques that encouraged trade (ex: lines of credit), places they traded with, and major goods traded.
Introduction
Increased agricultural production, better transportation, urbanization, industrialization, and increase in population all contributed to the stimulation of Chinese economy. Since China’s regions started becoming more specialized in their agriculture and manufacturing, they started trading within themselves and other regions for products. Government bureaucracies also played a major role in distributing staple foods, such as rice, wheat, and millet, and authorities kept close watch over industries like iron which were important to the military and country as a whole.
